Colorado Fires - Resources, Where To Donate, & More

Colorado Strong

The Marshall fire was the most destructive in Colorado history. Almost 1,000 homes and businesses were destroyed, and over 6,000 acres were burned in 24 hours. Tens of thousands were evacuated, just days before the new year, and many of those have no homes to return to.

Donate Money & Resources

One of the most impactful ways to help if you're able is cold, hard cash. There are several local funds you can contribute to that are managed in Colorado with resources distributed quickly and locally. A few places are also taking donations of food and supplies.

Material Donations:

Update from Colorado Responds (01/06/2022):

A designated donation drop-off location is in the process of being set up. An online registration system is being set up for individuals to submit what materials/services they would like to offer. These resources will be available and shared in this E-newsletter as soon as they are ready. Please hold off on offering donated goods or services until the systems are ready to accept them.

  • No material donations are needed at this time, including food and pet food. Items not needed may go to waste and get in the way of relief efforts.
  • We have begun compiling a list of what will be needed soon. Please start collecting these items and hold onto them until a designated drop-off location is determined.
  • When appropriate, donate only those things that are requested by officials and bring them to the official designated collection centers.
  • It may take a few days to determine what items are needed and to set up official, designated collection centers to receive them

There are a number of events, specials, and more being offered by organizations, restaurants, bars to raise money for those affected by the fires. Please check back frequently as we continue to add to the list.

Donate Your Time

Per Colorado Responds, "In most disasters, the people needed in the Response Phase are the First Responders. Those individuals represent law enforcement, fire and other emergency management personnel. It is not safe for you to go to the scene of a disaster. Please wait until opportunities suitable for your skills are identified and posted." You can sign up and list your skills, and they will reach out as opportunities become available.

Update from Colorado Responds (01/06/2022):

  • Do not go to the scene of a disaster to offer help.
  • More volunteers will be needed soon, but hang tight while first responders and responding agencies determine needs. The arrival of unexpected volunteers and material donations will interfere with response efforts.
  • Stay safe by volunteering with a reputable responding agency.

Don't Become Part Of The Problem

This isn't the time to try to go hiking in RMNP or the Boulder Flatirons, nor is the time to just go look. Stay out of the area so as not to impede evacuation and firefighting efforts.
