When To See The Leaves Change

The prime time to catch the changing of the leaves depends on the area. In the northern mountains, the best time to see the colors change is from mid to late September. The central mountains tend to have their peak during the last week of September, and the southern mountains peak in the first week of October. 9News is pretty good at predicting the color change, but don’t worry if you don’t catch it right away, as it typically takes a few extra weeks for the leaves to fall off the trees (unless we get one of those crazy fall snows!). Head to one of these spots for the perfect photo ops!

Aspen

Making the drive up to Aspen this time of year is definitely worth the trip. Head to the Maroon Bells and you’ll see an array of beautifully colored Aspen trees framing the mountains. There’s a reason that the Maroon Bells are the most photographed peaks in the country, and you’re sure to come home with some great pictures to show off.
